Last Half of 2021 - Project & Life Wrap Up: Deck, New Range, Summer, Fall, and Winter Fun

A lot has happened since our last post way back in June! To help put a bow on 2021, here are the highlights of what we worked on (and the fun we had) during the latter half of 2021.

July

We celebrated Laird’s 8th Birthday, enjoyed the Summit County 4th of July festivities, and drove to Michigan for a two-week vacation time with family and friends. We celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary on July 15 and Kelsey and I even got to sneak away for a couple of days for a little getaway in Beulah, MI.

August

Family hut trip to Margy’s Hut outside of Aspen, more progress on the deck, and the boys started school - 3rd grade for Laird, and kindergarten for Corbin.

September

My parents visited for the month! They treated us to a fall train ride in Leadville, which was super pretty. We rode our bikes a bunch too! And, naturally continued to work on the deck. We saw Rodrigo y Gabriela at the Vail Amphitheater and Kelsey and I had a date night to Red Rocks to see Jimmy Buffett!

October

We continued to plug away at the deck project and treated ourselves to a trip to Seattle for fall break. This was our first trip to the Northwest and we absolutely loved it! Our good friends Joel and Alissa hosted us as their beautiful home in Samamish. Our new Bosch black stainless steel range arrived too! We celebrated Halloween with our family and the boys dressed up as Harry Potter and Luke Skywalker. And, naturally…we kept working on the deck too. Notice a theme yet?! Ha!

November

We took a fun mountain bike trip to Fruita, CO with some awesome friends, installed the new gas range, hosted the first Thanksgiving in the 9,290 home, and finished the railing on the deck project! We also got in our first ski day of the season at A-Basin.

December

Lots of holiday fun! We cut down our Christmas tree right in our neighborhood, baked cookies, and hosted our first Christmas at the 9,290 home! We have visited two of the local ice skating ponds and are having fun with a new sport. We enjoyed delicious fondue dinner on Christmas Eve, yummy brunch on Christmas day, then skiing that afternoon. We’re wrapping up the year with skiing at Copper Mountain, then NYE celebrations with friends and family.

What’s on deck for 2022?

  • Officially get the deck inspected so we can close the permit and move on to a new project

  • Complete the master steam shower

  • Add shelving in the utility room and mud room

  • Optimize the laundry space with more shelves and organized cupboards

  • Caulk trim and fill seams in concrete floor

  • Find some more furniture for the loft and main living space

  • Get our plans and permits ready for the last big project - our garage! We hope to be able to start in the spring once the snow melts.

What are your plans for 2022? Let us know in the comments.

If you find yourself in the Colorado mountains, please give us a shout! We love to host friends and family in our home.

Wishing you health and happiness in 2022!

Cheers,

Cory
